A normal coordinate analysis of several XReO3-complexes with X = F, Cl, Br and CH3 is performed and discussed. A comparison of the methyl group as point mass with the halogens has been examined and discussed. The calculations have also been expanded to include the whole methyl group.

The vibrational spectra of mesitylene and a complete 'assignment of the observed normal modes are presented and discussed together with literature data. A general valence force field suitable for different 1,3,5-trisubstituted benzenes was investigated and normal coordinate calculations for C6H5R (R = Me, Cl, Br) were performed. Good agreement between observed and calculated frequencies has been achieved. The force field together with force constants and potential energy distribution is presented. The complete set of the representations of the normal modes based on the calculated displacement vectors of the atoms is given.

`Speckle' being a subject of continuing interest for scientists and engineers, has resulted in tremendous growth of literature in the past. It can be seen that the activity in the field of speckles has been continuing without any sign of slowing down. The speckle-based techniques become even more attractive to the engineers when their applications become feasible in real-time replacing the processing of photographic records and the subsequent optical transformation of the processed speckle photographs (specklegrams). The availability of various types of nonlinear photorefractive crystals and spatial light modulators for recording the speckles has opened a new way for real-time processing of optical information. The present bibliographic review covers the years 1991 and 1992. It is hoped that this review would serve to give the readers an overview of the advances in the area of speckles. The main areas/topics covered during the years 1991 and 1992 are given.
